From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
I used this activity with Title 1 Tutoring Students reading From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Franweiler for summer reading.
Students first created categories. After pushing them to create additional categories they came up with Power.
Students entered the more obvious words in the category and then one student entered the word chauffeur saying that the rich are powerful and that powerful government officials often have chauffeurs.
Another student then added the word flattery to the category. When asked to justify the addition, he said flattery often gives you power over someone. They want to be nice to you since you have said something nice to them.
